Production teams from the TNUA Department of Filmmaking and Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts have held a video- conferencing session to see and discuss two short lms they have created in an inter-school project.

The project had started in March 2015. Over the months, the teams from both universities worked together to create the scripts of the films (no more than 15 minutes), create the story boards, look for the actors and locations, design the sets, and carry out the lming, editing and post-production process.
 
They managed to break the language and cultural barriers and the results were “Cake” by the TNUA team and “Pillow Baby” by the Chapman side.

Prof. Chang Chan, who led the TNUA team, noted that the project used film as a medium for cross- cultural exchange, helping the students from diferent cultures learn to work together and better understand each other.

Huang Tsai-yen, the producer of the TNUA lm crew, said that during the making of the films, both sides observed some obvious di erences between their ways of working. For example, the Chapman crew observed the U.S. union’s rules of not working more than 12 hours a day.
 
On the TNUA side, the shooting of the film on the very first day started with a traditional ritual of praying, followed by days of long hours of work and overwork that would usually deprive the crew of sleep and rest until the lming was completed, Huang said.
