The inaugural KuanDu Light Art Festival is showcasing at TNUA 11 works of art created by the university’s teachers, students and alumni.
The annual festival, which began on October 1, is different from traditional lights and lanterns shows, as it emphasizes the artistic possibility of technological media.
The works are spread across the campus of TNUA, lighting up and presenting a new look of the hills of Kuandu. Apart from the light installation art decorating the campus from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. every night during the month-long event, the festival also features other activities, including, “Flash,” an interactive audio-visual performance jointly presented by TNUA’s Department of New Media Art and the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Central University.
The artists featured in the festival will also give 15 lectures and workshops during the month, sharing with the participants the ideas behind their works. The participants will also have the opportunity to work on half-finished works provided by the artists.
The very first workshop already took place on October 1. It was a workshop combining traditional Taiwanese bamboo weaving art and Internet of Things technology.
The performance at the festival’s opening ceremony was “Light Forest,” presented by XXXXX, a group led by Fujui Wang.
Featured artworks include: “Playkid” by Prof. Jia-ming Day; “Current Light- Outdoor, 2” by Yao Chung-Han; “The Glowing Light Project: Grassland” by Chuang Chih-Wei; “A Shadow Puppet Follows Me Only” by Prof. Der-Lor Way, dean of the School of Film and New Media, Shu-Yu Lin and Yuan-An Chan; and “Light and Meet by Phone” by Prof. Xiaoniu Su-Chu Hsu of the Department of New Media Art, and Chiu-Wen Wang.
