TNUA president leads delegation to two-week visits in Europe

TNUA President Prof. Yang Chyi Wen, accompanied by Prof. Jun-Jieh Wang, chief director of the Center for Art and Technology, and Prof. Constance Kuo-Yuan Lee from the Department of Music, embarked on June 18 on a two-week trip in Europe to visit a number of arts schools.
The schools they visited during the trip were: the Amsterdam University of the Arts; the University of the Arts Utrecht; the Folkwang University of the Arts; the Berlin University of the Arts; the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin; the Zurich University of the Arts; Conservatoire de Lyon; and Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, Lyon.
Prof. Yang noted that TNUA and the Berlin University of the Arts signed an agreement to become sister schools during the two-week stay Europe.
For some of the schools, the visits represented their first-ever contacts with TNUA, Prof. Yang said, stressing it will help expand TNUA’s exchange activities and its international visibility.
The TNUA delegation first arrived in the Netherlands where they visited the Amsterdam University of the Arts and the University of the Arts Utrecht, warmly welcomed by their respective presidents, Prof. Bert Verveld and Prof. Jules van de Vijver.
The visits to the Netherlands universities were made possible by help from Ms. Carla Delfos, executive director of the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA).
The TNUA delegation then spent five days in Germany, visiting the Folkwang University of the Arts, the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, as well as some museums.
At Folkwang, they received a warm welcome from its president, Prof. Kurt Mehnert. They were later shown around the campus by Prof. Henrietta Horn, who was a visiting professor at TNUA in 2015. Prof. Horn will again visit TNUA this fall.
At the Berlin University of the Arts, whose president, Prof. Martin Rennert, had visited TNUA in 2015, the two sides completed the signing of an agreement to become sister schools. Prof. Yang and Prof. Rennert also discussed future cooperation and exchanges between the two universities.
The delegation then visited TNUA’s sister school, the Zurich University of the Arts, where they were warmly greeted by its president, Prof. Thomas Meier and some others. Prof. Yang invited Prof. Meier to attend the Kuandu Arts Festival in October, while Prof. Meier asked Prof. Yang to go to Hong Kong in November to join him in presenting the achievements of the two schools’ mutual exchange programs.
The TNUA delegates then went on to France for the last leg of their trip. Although the visits to Conservatoire de Lyon and Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, Lyon were not yet on the official school-to-school level, the meetings were warm and meaningful.
