BOB DYLAN, FIRST MUSICIAN AWARDED NOBEL LITERATURE PRIZE

The 75-year-old American singer, songwriter and poet, Bob Dylan, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature on Oct 13. He is the first musician to receive this award. The decision came as a surprise to many.

Widely acclaimed for his anti-war music and human rights activism in the 60s, composer and poet Bob Dylan has been crowned the laureate for the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Swedish Academy recognized Dylan's creative achievements in the field of literature and subculture in the past 60 years.

Dylan's early songs such as "Blowing in the Wind", "The Times They Are A-Changin" were the anthems of the human rights and anti-war movements during the 60s in the United States. He has also been recognized as the spokesperson for the counter-culture movement during that time. (PTS News Network)

"Blowin' in the Wind" is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and released as a single and on his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963. Although it has been described as a protest song, it poses a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war and freedom. The refrain "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" has been described as "impenetrably ambiguous: either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind".
